Dear HALO mailing list member,

You may be interested to know about a free workshop on 2 um fibre lasers which is being prepared by the ISLA project (which includes several HALO members). It will be held in Munich on the day following the Laser World of Photonics exhibition and CLEO Europe conference.

There will be a range of presentations on the progress made in 2 um fibre laser component hardware by the ISLA partners, including Tm- and Ho-fibres (ORC), passive and active components (G&H), graphene modelockers (TCD) and 79x nm diode lasers (II-VI). An overview of 2 um fibre lasers, including CW, ns- and ps- sources will be presented (Rofin & JDSU).

The ISLA project is very pleased to host the following presentations on 2 um laser technology from guest speakers:

2 um laser development and applications
Dr. Samir Lamrini; LISA Laser

Medical applications of 2 um lasers
Dr. Ronald Sroka; Hospital of University Munich

Optical Coherence Tomography for cultural heritage using 2 um broadband lasers
Dr. Haida Liang; Nottingham Trent University

Plastics processing with 2 um lasers
Stephan Fazeny; Trotec Laser (TBC)

2 um lasers for MIR frequency conversion
Dr. Eric Lallier; Thales Research and Technology

Telecoms applications for 2 um lasers
Prof. David Richardson; ORC Southampton (MODEGAP project)

2 um lasers as pump sources to the mid-IR
Dr. Lasse Leick; NKT Photonics

Free space communications using 2 um lasers
Florian Moll; Institute of Communications and Navigation
There are still a few places left: please get in touch with Bruce Napier (bruce@vividcomponents.co.uk) if you wish to attend this free event!!
(Obviously space is limited. In order to ensure that a wide range of interests are represented, there is a restriction of two persons from any given organisation.)
